The 5th Annual Family Friendly
& Diversity Practices Awards 2004

For companies to succeed in today's economic environment, employers must hire and retain diverse workforces and provide a workplace that offers a balance with work/life issues. On October 1, 2004, the Evansville-Area Human Resource Association in conjunction with the Workforce Investment Board and Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce presented the Fifth Annual Family Friendly and Diversity Practices Awards and Seminar. The awards honored and recognized companies within the Tri-State area who are leaders in developing a workplace that embraces diversity and family friendly practices. Dan Katz, local television personality from WFIE, was the Master of Ceremonies.

Mayor Jonathon Weinzapfel presented the “2004 Mayor’s Diversity Award” to Lois Duncan, Founder & CEO of D.E.A.R. (Diversity Enhances All Relationships) and Alice Weathers, Executive Director of Community Action Program of Evansville (CAPE) for their efforts to welcome and facilitate the assimilation of individuals with a diverse background into our community.

The full-day seminar offered attendees the opportunity to learn more about family friendly and diversity initiatives and to share best practices. Local organizations that provide services and/or products that support family friendly/diversity initiatives were available to meet with attendees at a vendor fair.

The EHRA would like to congratulate the companies that received an award or were nominated for their leadership in providing diverse and family-friendly work environments. In addition, the EHRA would like to congratulate Lois Duncan and Alice Weathers as the recipients of the Mayor’s Diversity Award for their outstanding leadership and pioneering efforts to integrate individuals with diverse backgrounds into our community.
