Dr. MacDermid will discuss the many faces of diversity, both individual and family, and how factory work presents both opportunities and challenges for supportive work. She will report her research findings about worker experiences, supportiveness, and performance. Dr. MacDermid will share her thoughts on future directions for factories.

“Affirmative Action Requirements & How to Survive in an OFCCP Audit”
This session will provide an in depth review of the Affirmative Action Requirements including 2 Factor, Utilization and Workforce Analysis, Applicant Flow, and Adverse Impact Analysis. Mr. Russell and Mr. Franklin will discuss Management’s responsibility to ensure compliance and documentation. A step-by-step review of an OFCCP Audit will be given and an EEO/AAP Check-off List will be provided as a tool to assist in future OFCCP/Audits.

Rob Aspy, SPHR of Indiana University
“What’s Diversity Got to Do With It”
The primary objective of this session is to increase knowledge for HR professionals to bridge cultural gaps using similarities rather than differences and reduce potential for cultural misperceptions through the development of cross-cultural dialogues. The session will address similarities and differences in verbal and non-verbal communications among and between European-Americans, religions, Latinos and GLBT populations. A ten-step model on positive communications will be introduced for participants to implement for change and growth.

Tom Davis and Colleen Martin, SPHR of Alcoa, Warrick Operations
“Challenges and Opportunities of Creating a Diverse and Family Friendly Workplace in a Unionized Environment”
In this portion of the presentation, the presenters will discuss programs at the 2,300 employee site that have proven effective in valuing diversity and helping to create a family friendly workforce. Mr. Davis and Ms. Martin will share how to collectively bargain without negatively impacting diversity, working with as opposed to against union officials to create a family friendly workplace, Alcoa's Involvement in Women Unlimited and the Alcoa Women's Network, and Alcoa Life! They will discuss the Warrick Operations Summer Engineering Internship and Bench Engineering Programs and how it has impacted Alcoa’s diversity and family friendly philosophy.

Orvietta Shannon of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana (TMMI)
"This is Our Story-Toyota Treatment of Others Diversity Initiative”
Ms. Shannon will give an overview of Toyota’s Global 2010 Diversity Vision. She will discuss the TMMI process of developing their Diversity Advisory Council and Diversity vision statement. She will provide the feedback received from the TMMI Workplace assessment survey. In addition, she will report on a business case for diversity at TMMI. TMMI trained all team members in Treatment of Others Awareness. She will discuss the components of the TMMI Diversity wheel, diversity definition and the buying power of people of color. As well as the next steps for TMMI’s Diversity Initiative.

The primary objective of this session is to raise awareness on the impact of communications and culture in a diverse work setting and to provide tools for HR managers to communicate expectations to employees. This interactive session addresses cultural influences at work and provides communication tools for HR Managers to replicate in their actual work settings. Participants will practice communications and problem solutions.
