A panel of multi-cultural speakers presented a question & answer session on items related to recruitiment and retention. These diversity experts included:

Anita F. Hill, Keynote Speaker
Professor of Social Policy, Law, and Women's Studies

Anita F. Hill, professor of social policy, law, and women's studies, was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 1980, and began her law career as an associate with the Washington, D.C., firm of Wald, Harkrader & Ross.

In 1981 Professor Hill became special counsel to the assistant secretary of the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights. From 1982 to 1983, she served as advisor to the chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Professor Hill began her teaching career as an assistant professor at Oral Roberts University, where she taught from 1983 to 1986. In 1986, she joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Before coming to The Heller School, she visited at The University of California's Institute for the Study of Social Change and Brandeis University's Women's Studies Program.

Professor Hill is the author of numerous articles on international commercial law, bankruptcy, and civil rights-all areas in which she has taught. She has given numerous presentations on commercial law as well as race and gender equality. In addition, Professor Hill has appeared on several television programs, such as Face the Nation and Meet the Press, and, her commentary has been published by Newsweek, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe. She has served on numerous boards of directors for nonprofit organizations and is the author of Speaking Truth to Power, which chronicles her experience as a witness in the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

Janet N. Parker, SPHR
Senior V.P. of Human Resources for AmSouth Bank

Janet is Senior Vice President of Human Resources for AmSouth Bank which is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama and employs approximately 12,500 employees in the Southeast.  Her department is responsible for providing HR support for the lines of business which represents approximately 4500 employees.  Prior to moving into this position at AmSouth, she was head of the Staffing Department and Employee Relations.  Collectively, she has 27 years of HR experience focused on staffing and employee relations in insurance, manufacturing, and the non-profit sector.

Additionally, Janet is an At-Large Director and Chair of the HR Committee on the SHRM Board of Directors.  Her prior volunteer leadership roles include: Chapter President of the Birmingham Society for HR Management (BSHRM) , Alabama State Council Director and Director for the Area II Board.

She has an undergraduate degree in Business from Jacksonville State University.

Eric M. Ellis
M.A., President and CEO Integrity Development

A leading consultant in the field of organizational development and cultural diversity management, Eric Ellis believes in linking strategic interventions to bottom-line business results. Through his management consulting firm, Integrity Development, he has had the privilege of working with corporate clients that include Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Maytag International, Lexmark International, Reynolds & Reynolds, Plante & Moran LLP, Mercy Health Partners, Dayton Technologies and Huntington Bank.

As the President and CEO of Integrity Development, Ellis has conducted national and regional keynote addresses for organizations such as the American Association of Architects, the Columbus Urban League and the National Food and Marketing Institute. On the local level, he has moderated the Common Ground broadcasts for ABC affiliate WCPO-TV and WCET-TV, and has spoken to a wide range of groups including the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Chambers of Commerce, the Greater Cincinnati Human Resources Association, and many different educational institutions. He has recently published an article titled “The Seven Principles of Inclusion” which explores the practical application of managing inclusion.

Previously, Ellis had been Managing Director of Inroads Greater Cincinnati/Dayton, a training and development organization, and Program Director for the University of Cincinnati’s Division of Evening College and Continuing Education. He has a M.A. in Planning from the University of Cincinnati where he also completed two years of post-graduate studies focused on organizational development. His B.A. is in Business from Wright State University where he was a member of their NCAA Division II National Championship Basketball team.

The recipient of many awards, Ellis has received a State of Ohio Governor’s Citation, recognition for leadership by former President Bush’s Point of Light Foundation and the designation as Greater Cincinnati’s Big Brother of the Year, 1991. He has also been named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America and one of Cincinnati’s Emerging New Leaders by Applause magazine.

A leader in his professional field, Ellis also has a strong and enduring relationship with community service in the Greater Cincinnati area. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Fine Arts Fund and the Playhouse in the Park, the Wright State University Alumni Association, and co-chairs the Introducing Greater Cincinnati program. He is a member of the Underground Railroad Freedom Center Community Advisory Board and Leadership Cincinnati Steering Committee. As a hobby he loves to sing and write music and has had the honor of singing the National Anthem at a Cincinnati Reds Baseball Game.

Stacey Gibson
Director of Work/Life and Diversity Programs, Bristol-Myers Squibb

Stacey Gibson is currently Senior Director, Work/Life and Diversity Programs, for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, based in New York City. Stacey joined the Corporate Staff Human Resources Department in 1983 from the Internal Audit Department. She later joined the Human Resources Employee Relations Department, where she began to focus on work/life issues. Under her leadership, the company built four child development centers and Stacey has initiated flexible work strategies and implemented numerous programs that support employees in managing their professional and personal lives. BMS has been named one of the Top 10 Companies for Working Mothers for five straight years. Stacey holds a BA in Sociology from Hofstra University and an MBA in Human Resources from Pace University.

Stuart Tross
Vice President, Human Resources, for Mead Johnson Company

Stuart Tross is currently Vice President, Human Resources, for Mead Johnson Company, based in Evansville, Indiana. Since joining BMS in 1998, Stuart has held roles in several corporate COEs (Leadership Development, Organizational Effectiveness), worked on the acquisition of DuPont Pharmaceuticals, and led HR for four specialty businesses with the US Pharmaceuticals group. Prior to BMS, Stuart was a management consultant for Towers Perrin. Stuart completed his undergraduate work at Cornell University and received a Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology from Georgia Tech.

Mead Johnson Company, wholly owned by BMS, is a leading provider of nutritional products for infants and children. The global headquarters for MJ is based in Evansville, Indiana.

Kim Russell Wells
Director of Career Services for Howard University, Washington, D.C.

Kim R. Wells is the Director of Career Services at Howard University and leads one of the nation’s largest and most effective HBCU career development programs.

Prior to arriving at Howard University, Mr. Wells was a Senior Consultant for Booz-Allen & Hamilton were he served on several strategic development initiatives including the IRS Modernization initiative, the Department of Army’s Army University Access Online educational initiative, and as a coordinator for the firm’s Business Consulting Certification Program. Mr. Wells’ consulting experience also includes strategic planning, diversity, and human resource management initiatives for Vantage Human Resource Consulting Services, Potomac Electric and Power Company, and Educational Testing Services in Princeton, New Jersey.

Mr. Wells currently serves on several national advisory boards and committees, including: Monster. Com, Universum Communications, Rezfuzion, The Human Capital Institute, the National Association for Colleges and Employers Diversity Advancement Committee, the Elite HBCU Consortium Committee, and previously on the White House HBCU Employer and Career Development Committee.

Mr. Wells is a freelance writer for publications that have included Black Collegian Magazine, Minority MBA Magazine, BET.com, and Graduating Engineer & Computer Careers Magazine, and has been frequently quoted in Ebony Magazine, and Black Enterprise. Mr. Wells has also been featured in interviews with National Public Radio’s Marketplace Program, BET Nightly News, and Trailblazers a Washington area professional development program.

Mr. Wells has an MA. in Organizational Communication, with a concentration in Human Resource Consulting and Strategic Communication, and a BA. from the College of New Jersey in Sociology with a concentration in Human Resource Development. Mr. Wells has also completed an Executive Leadership Program with Cornell University with a concentration in Strategic Development.
